Photovoltaics (PV) is a method to convert sun energy into electricity. A photovoltaic system (PV system) is composed of a number of solar panels, that can be installed on roofs or on open areas and a converter, that converts the direct current from the solar panels into usable alternating current. The produced power can be used to feed the public grid or for own consumption.
The power of PV systems ranges from domestic applications for houses up to large power plants providing several MW electrical output. PV systems are operating without noise, moving parts and environmental emissions.
In addition, it is well proven: grid connected PV applications have now been in operation for over 20 years.
